P.P. solo| Terán/Paredes | Matucana | Viaje Latinoamericano | Pablo Paredes Trio Pablo Paredes (solo)
The chilean pianist unites the influences of south american folk music, partly pre-columbian origin and partly colored by the european colonial area, with modern and current music influences. His music ranges from Waltz, traditional and new Tango up to Danzón, Huayno and other in Europe not so well known music styles and rhythms. Paredes develops his very personal clear and uncomplicated musical language.
[ Duo Terán/Paredes
It was inevitable the paths of Pablo Paredes and Sergio Terán would have to cross one of these days. This succeeded surprisingly enough 1990 in Germany. Since their first common production, "Maipu" selling 40.000 copies worldwide, the two musicians have never stopped working and producing together. This lead to a profound common musical foundation and consequently onto the most important european stages.
Pablo Paredes Trio A new sound perspective of the traditional jazz-cast piano/double-bass/drums. Paredes and the international well known musicians, focus on the folkloric music of the southern part of south america, which is not only influenced by pre-columbian music but also by the hispanic and north african culture.
Matucana The compositions of Pablo Paredes for "Matucana" have their origin in the south american Andes. The "Matucana" band unites four musicians, who developed an independent sound concept on the basis of the chilean-andean folk music. Respect for cultural traditions meets open mind.
Sergio Terán proves a virtuous player on a great variety of wind instruments, zampoña, quena, a flute with a flat mouthpiece, and trutruca, an indian ritual instrument made of horn, among others. Paredes translates, from the point of view of a jazz musician, the folk music of his native land on the grand piano showing a high degree of sensibility. With great dynamic, diversity, technical virtuosity, and creative soli he marks the sound of the music. Drummer Ulli Krämer developed a concept for "Matucana" connecting traditional rhythms of latin american music with the swing phrasing of jazz and the energy of rock. In order to accomplish this he uses a special drum-set with many different percussion instruments (e.g. bombo legüero or cajón peruano). Acoustic bass player André Nendza performs "Matucana`s" music from his own european point of view. He uses the free spaces to highlight them with improvised accents. Apart from the pizzicato technique typical for jazz, he uses the bow, drum sticks, mallets, and the corpus of the instrument to extent his gamut of sounds, like he did together with Kenny Wheeler and Dave Liebman.
"MACHI" "Matucana will establish itself as a new voice in the so called
"World Music". With music that stimulates all the senses of
the audience, music that creates a state of mind and satisfies every wish." Inmusic Magazin ]Interview] Viaje Latinoamericano The trio "Viaje Latinoamericano" consists of piano, guitar, and flute and dedicates their cause to the indian folk tunes of Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Chile. Yet the folkloristic aspect, and this is crucial, sounds only as an intellectual distillate, or a kind of reminiscence, shown in the intonation of the different wood flutes of Sergio Terán, in the spanish accent of Quique Sinesi on guitar, as well as the melodies and rhythms of pianist Pablo Paredes - a Chick Corea with the ardor of Keith Jarrett.
The chamber music like togetherness moves into the foreground, an intimate
trialogue of the instruments, fading the borders between composition and
improvisation to the inaudible is created. Thus a profound and serious
music arises containing the south american glow.
